Coast Inc's Corner Chat: Ron Berry

In our recent conversation with Ron, who joined the team earlier this year, we gained insights into the path that led him to sales and how he’s thriving in a role that aligns with his relentless work ethic and drive to excel. Having previously worked in laboratories, Ron found himself constantly pushing beyond expectations in previous jobs—yet, he felt that his efforts weren’t yielding the growth he desired. When he discovered sales, Ron recognized it as the perfect environment to match his high-achieving nature.

As he shared with us, Ron loves that he can work as hard as he wants in his current role and directly reap the rewards. Through Coast, he’s found not only a path to apply his science background, but also a supportive environment that allows him to connect with a diverse team, develop invaluable skills, and make a meaningful impact.

Q: How did you hear about Coast Inc?

A:  I was looking into sales roles where I could incorporate my science background after I left my last lab job. There was even a position selling analytical instrumentation where I went through five rounds of interviews. At the end, though, the manager asked if I had any sales experience, and I had to admit I didn’t. That experience showed me my next step was to gain sales experience to eventually blend science and sales. If I could break into that market, it would be awesome.

Q: What is it like to work with Coast Inc?

A:  I love the work atmosphere here. Every morning, we start with a Zoom session focused on skill-building and mindset development, and I really value having that time in the mornings. Then, when we head into the field to meet with customers.  It’s rewarding to work alongside people who are like-minded. Finding a team that matches my mindset and performance goals was a big priority for me, and the team at Coast delivers on that.

Plus, the opportunities to connect with others within the organization is invaluable. We’re truly learning from the best.

Q: How has Coast Inc. helped you achieve your goals?

A: Coast has helped me achieve my goals by putting the responsibility for my growth back in my hands, which I really value. If what I said about being a high achiever and performer is true, I'm proving it to myself now. The results and the feedback from other leaders show that my growth is real and measurable, and I can see the progress I'm making. Every few months, I do a personal reflection to look at where I was compared to where I am now, and having that consistent progress really supports my growth mindset.

Q: What does working at Coast Inc. mean to you?

A:  It means I have a clear path forward, a direction I don’t have to second-guess. I have the resources and mentorship I can rely on, and I know support will be there whenever I face challenges. The support system at Coast—from my team members to my mentors—is invaluable. It’s more meaningful than anything I’ve experienced in any other position so far in my life.

Q: How does Coast fit your personality?

A: I think this company fits my personality well because we work with people from all different backgrounds. I can connect with others who relate to my experiences, and we sometimes attract people with backgrounds similar to mine. I really enjoy the opportunity to interact with such a wide range of people—not only to see how we’re similar but also to appreciate what makes each of us unique.

It’s great to work with such a diverse group. I haven’t met another chemist yet, but I’ve met engineers, other scientists, and biologists. It’s inspiring to see how they’ve transitioned into this field too.

Q: What is the most meaningful memory that you have of working here?

A: This was during my first or second week at Coast, still in training. We met a customer, Phil, who I’ll never forget. He was going through a tough time—he’d just lost his wife a few days before we met him. That experience showed me the real value in what we do. It’s not just about offering sales solutions; it’s about being there as a person, someone to talk to.

Phil didn’t want to talk business; he just wanted to have a meaningful conversation. We were there to offer solutions, but ultimately, he just needed someone to listen. The impact we made on him was invaluable, even though we didn’t get anything out of it in terms of sales. Before I joined Coast, I was introverted and wouldn’t usually take the time to connect with someone like that. This job has encouraged me to make those connections, and I’m grateful for that opportunity.

Q: What advice would you give to candidates?

A: Some advice I would give to anyone interested in the company is to really make a commitment. It might be scary. It might be difficult. You might see a risk. If you are the type of person that is an overachiever and you work hard, I feel like you're going to find this type of work environment is the one you’ve been looking for. And we'll really help you grow into that next level. It's not just about the work. It's not just about the sales. It's learning skills that are going to help you throughout your life. That's what I've found with Coast sales in general, in this position.

Originally from Key West, Florida, Ron spent his childhood in the Sunshine State, moving around with his family before eventually settling in Lakeland, where he attended high school. There, he developed a love for both chemistry and music, joining the marching band and playing saxophone—a passion he continued at Florida State University as part of the renowned Marching Chiefs. Ron graduated with a bachelor's in chemistry and started a career in the lab, working initially in the medical industry on product development. He then took a position with the State of Florida, conducting testing on food materials, and eventually moved to Nevada to join a laboratory in Reno, where he contributed to R&D for EV battery materials.

Though he gained valuable experience, Ron ultimately felt drawn to a career where he could connect with others and feel energized about his work environment. That pursuit led him to Coast Inc., where he’s found a role that aligns with his commitment to hard work and his goal of building a rewarding career with a supportive, inspiring team.
